Amaya’s Taco Village is a family-owned business located in Austin that serves—you guessed it—tacos! Opened in 1976 and in business for 38 years, this taco restaurant uses only the freshest of ingredients and everything is always home-cooked. For a restaurant that’s a staple of the Austin food scene and a favorite of locals living in the city, you’ve gotta give Amaya’s Taco Village a try.

Wait…There’s More than Tacos Here!

Okay, so we lied a bit. Not only does Amaya’s serve tacos, but they serve a whole range of Mexican dishes, too. Love nachos? The nachos compuestos (with beans, beef, cheese, guacamole, jalapenos, and sour cream) are amazing. Craving fajitas? The fajita tampiquena is sure to satisfy. Enchiladas your most favorite thing ever? You’ll go crazy for the cheese-topped enchiladas with beef sauce. With plenty of great Mexican options to choose from, you won’t be left having to settle for the tacos (although it wouldn’t really be settling).

It’s Taco Time!

If you do want tacos, though, you won’t be disappointed. In fact, we absolutely should insist that you place an order of the rib tacos. The rib tacos are served with rice, beans, lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese, and are completely mouthwatering! The tacos shells are hand-fried and homemade corn tortilla shells, which make these tacos some of the best in Austin. If rib tacos don’t sound appetizing, go for the fish tacos, which are equally as delicious with grilled seasoned tilapia, charro beans, rice, lettuce, tomato, and pico de gallo.

Down to Earth Eatery

The entire atmosphere of this eatery is casual and down to earth, making it the perfect place to relax with a group, with a close friend or partner, or even by yourself. While the service can be a little slow, it only lends to the laid back feeling of this calm restaurant. Take your time with your meal, because you’ll never be rushed at Amaya’s. Also, the restaurant is kid-friendly, and even has a kids’ menu. So, if you’re looking for a place that you can comfortably dine with the whole family, Amaya’s is definitely a top recommendation.

Daily Specials Aim to Please

The prices at Amaya’s aren’t too high anyway, but the daily specials are always very well priced, making for a great cheap lunch option. Plus, the portions are always heaping, so if you’re looking for an inexpensive way to fill up, this is the restaurant for you. Plus, the Micheladas are reportedly fabulous.

Not Just for Dinner

This restaurant is open at 7AM every day but Sunday, when they open at 8 AM. Which means, of course, that they have a fabulous breakfast menu! With some traditional American items like pancakes on the menu, as well as some traditional Mexican ones, this is a wonderful place to get a great start on the day. If you love huevos as much as we do, you’ll love it here for breakfast.
