The Commons Cafe, which is located in the Commons building and the University of Texas, is one of the most delicious cafeterias in all of Texas. While it’s located within the University, anyone is welcome to go. If you haven’t checked it out, now’s the time to try this awesome find.

Breakfast, Lunch, and Snacks

Anyone can eat at this cafeteria, which offers breakfast from 7:00 AM to 10:30 AM, lunch from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM, and snacks from 1:30 to 3:00 Monday through Friday. While breakfast offers a variety of assorted items that are pretty good, lunch is where it’s really at. Lunch changes daily, but almost everything is good.

When to Go

Since the lunch menu is always changing, here’s what you should eat and when you should go to The Common Cafe to get it–

On Mondays, check out the cafe for the Jamaican style jerk beef with scotch bonnet pepper relish, or the Cuban style pork loin with mojo sauce. On Tuesdays, you’d be loath to not get the pork loin scaloppini with lemon caper sauce, or the eggplant parmesan if you prefer a vegetarian option. On Wednesdays, the cafeteria really heats things up with shredded beef quesadillas, smoked chicken tacos, and flame grilled pork fajitas. On Thursday, go for the BBQ sausage, which is a popular favorite here, or the chicken and dumplings, a very traditional and hearty dish. On Friday, things get fancy with blackened salmon with white wine sauce, jumbo lump crab cakes, coconut shrimp, or a grilled black angus rib eye steak.

Keep in mind, the menu is subject to change. For best results, to show up prepared to be surprised and ready to indulge!

Amazing Prices

If you want to eat lunch for cheap, then this is the place for you. Except for on certain days or certain items (like Friday’s surf and turf fare), an entree of food with two sides (ranging from green beans, pasta, rice, squash, mac & cheese, parsley potatoes, and more) is only $6.95. For the quality and quantity of food you get, that’s amazing!

Salad Bar Heaven

If one of the entrees we named above doesn’t tickle your fancy, or if you want to get in some greens with you meal, then you’ll love the salad bar here. With tons of toppings, your salad might end up being as filling as an entree would be. In addition to the salad bar, there’s also hamburgers, pizza, a baked potato bar, ready made sandwiches, snacks, and more that you can find here.

The Commons Cafe: Doing What it Can Locally

If you can believe it, a lot of the stuff that’s served at The Commons Cafe is actually grown by the chef of the cafe himself on the premises! This is one of the coolest things about the cafe, and greatly adds to the quality of the food.
