Most people aren’t ambivalent when it comes to their feelings about German food; they either love it or hate it. Flavors like sauerkraut and schnitzel can be hard to adjust to for those with a picky palate, and since German food is usually pretty heavy, it’s not uncommon to find people who refuse to eat the stuff. However, if you’re a person who loves everything German—both food and beer—then you’ll love the traditional wares and setting at King’s Biergarten in Houston.

All Your German Favorites

Whether your dining for lunch or dinner at King’s Biergarten, all of the traditional German favorite can be found on the menu. Try the Bavarian potato soup, the famous schnitzel sandwich, the bratwurst burger, the sausage platter, or the King’s Sampler for two (two portions of wiener schnitzel, choice of three specialty sausages, and three sides). Everything is large and very filling, so keep that in mind when ordering.

Something for Everyone

The menu is pretty lengthy at King’s, and there’s bound to be something for everyone on it. If you don’t like German food but happened to wind up at this restaurant, the smoked turkey breast is a pretty safe bet, the hamburger is a classic American choice, and the apple pear salad is delicious, healthy, and pleasing to even the pickiest of eaters.

Great Live Music

There’s live music here every weekend, and every Thursday and Sunday, too. The musical numbers rotate between three different individuals/musical groups, but all add to the authentic feeling of the meal. While dining on a Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday will certainly yield good eating, Thursday through Saturday is definitely best just for the live music.

Best Apple Strudel

If you love apple strudel, you have to head to King’s Biergarten for this after-dinner treat. The strudel isn’t too sweet, is served warm, and has been lauded as the best apple strudel in America by the restaurant owners and patrons alike. If you don’t like strudel or have a craving for something else, try the German chocolate cake, which is another top choice here.

Outside Dining Area

The inside of this restaurant is comfy, but can get a little cramped when the restaurant’s full. If you’d like some fresh air, make sure to request to be seated outdoors. Not only is the outdoor area a little roomier, but the music will come outdoors, too, and there’s more space for dancing.

German Beer

Even those that don’t like German food often love German beer. As such, you should head to King’s Biergarten simple for a ½ liter of the bitbuger or spaten Oktoberfest. When your beer’s accompanied by one of the restaurant’s giant pretzels, you’ll have a hard time finding anything to complain about at this restaurant.
