A trip to Houston wouldn’t be complete without a day spent at the Sam Houston Race Park, and if you’re a local who hasn’t already visited the race park, it’s due time you went.

The Racing

Obviously, the biggest draw to this park is the horse racing. Part of what makes Houston Houston is its love for horses, and if you love horse racing, you’ll love the live events that are hosted here. The live thoroughbred racing is an amazing display of talent and athleticism, on part of both the animal and the jockey. If you haven’t ever seen a horse race before, you’re in for a treat!

Other Events Throughout the Year

The Sam Houston Race Park doesn’t just host races, though. Instead, things such as the Color Festival, music festivals, a Halloween event named Something Wicked, a Mighty Mud Dash, a musical, and more are all things that you can expect to see and experience at Sam Houston Race Park. So, if you’re not into racing but love attending festivals or other unique events, there’s something for everyone at this race park.

Great Dining Options

A night out isn’t complete without food, and you’ll find two yummy restaurants to satiate your hunger at the Sam Houston Race Park. The first, the Winner’s Circle Restaurant, is actually Houston’s largest dining establishment. This gigantic restaurant has seating for more than 800 people, providing plenty of room for you and all of your friends. You can book a seat for the entire race, as the restaurant provides a great view of the race track. The restaurant buffet is open on Fridays & Saturdays during live race time.

The other dining option is the Jockey Club, which is a members-only club. Membership gets you access to great food – like brunch, lunch, and gourmet seafood – as well as a bar stocked with signature cocktails, and a great view of the race track.

The Suite Life

If you really want to enjoy a race or another event in style, you should consider renting out one of the suites for you and your entire family/office/group of friends. The luxury suites have room for up to 100 people, and come complete with a private bar, butler, and themed buffet based on your personal preferences. The suites are perfect for company parties, romantic evenings, birthdays, or other celebratory events.

Ticket Prices

Tickets are pretty reasonably priced at the Sam Houston Race Park, especially if you’re okay with mediocre seats. For races, general admission starts at $7 per person, making for a cheap date night or an inexpensive excuse to do something different. If you want access to the buffet during a race, tickets are a little more costly, and the Winner’s Circle buffet is priced started at $22.95 per person. For concerts and other events, prices vary, so you’ll have to check the event calendar for details.
