If you’ve ever been to a Brazilian steakhouse, then you probably already know that the ability to eat as much meat as you’d like over the course of the evening is a pretty awesome thing. You also know, though, that if the quality of meat isn’t great, then the big bucks you pay for all-you-can-eat is a major bummer. For good meat and a good time, the Brazilian steakhouse Fogo de Chão shouldn’t disappoint.

How it Works

If you haven’t been to a Brazilian steakhouse before, then here’s a brief tutorial of how it works:

  • You’ll be seated, and your drink order will be taken. You’ll also notice a card on your table with a red side and a green side.
  • Grab a plate, and make your way to the salad bar.
  • When you get back to your table, flip the card to green. When the card’s green, it means that you want meat to be served.
  • When you’ve had enough, flip your card to red to signal that you’re full for the moment.
  • Repeat!

You can flip your card from red to green as many times as you’d like, and when you’re finished, you are more than welcome to move on to dessert if there’s any room left in your stomach!

The Salad Bar Selections

The salad bar is fairly gourmet at Fogo’s, so feel free to go all out. Here, you’ll find aged parmesan, aged Manchego cheese, prosciutto, mozzarella, smoked salmon, salami, mushrooms, asparagus, sun-dried tomatoes, artichokes, hearts of palm, artisan breads, and more. There are more than 30 selections a the salad bar, so go wild!

Both Meat and Seafood

Typically, Brazilian steakhouses only serve meat. But at this establishment, you’ll also find some seafood selections. The seafood choices include a Chilean sea bass and a jumbo shrimp cocktail, both of which are superb. As for the meat, you’ll have the option of choosing between picanha (or top grade sirloin), filet mignon, beef ancho, bottom sirloin, cured pork sausage, pork loin, baby back pork ribs, chicken, lamb, and more.

On the Side

Because meat alone can be a little much, your meal will also include side dishes, which will automatically be brought to your table. The side dishes include warm cheese bread, hot polenta, garlic mashed potatoes, and caramelized green beans. You can also ask for rice and black beans, although these must be requested, and will not automatically be brought to the table.

The Price & Atmosphere

Considering this is an all-you-can-eat experience, the price of $50 per person isn’t ridiculous by any means. If you’re a big eater, you’ll certainly get your money’s worth. The cocktails are a little expensive, though, priced at around $15 per beverage. As for the atmosphere, the inside is very classy, kids aren’t forbidden but you won’t see many, and attire ranges from dressy casual to classy. You don’t have to have a reservation, but one is recommended, especially if you’ll be dining with a large group or on a weekend.
