For the nature lover or appreciator of beauty, there’s no finer way to spend an afternoon than by wandering through the San Antonio Botanical Garden. These gardens offer everything from free-strolling to classes and camps, and provide garden-goers with gorgeous flowers, native Texas plants, and more.

Gardens by Moonlight & Other Events

One of the most enjoyable things about these gardens are the number of awesome events that they host throughout the year. Gardens by Moonlight is one event that will be hosted on Oct. 11, 2014, and is a music event that’s made for lovebirds. There will be food, live music, and plenty of stargazing. Other events throughout the year include LegoArt, Art in the Garden, a Plant Sale, Brews and Blooms, Starlight Movies in the Garden,  Scarecrow Trail Exhibit, a BOOtanical Fall Festival, Holidays in Bloom, and Dog Days (where doggie treats and water pools will be available for pooches who enjoy a romp through the flowers).

Walks and Tours through the Botanical Garden

If you don’t attend one of the garden’s events, no worries – there is plenty of reason to enjoy the garden event-free, too. The garden has different walks on weekends throughout the year, like bird walks and native plant walks, which make for a relaxing way to get some exercising and learn a little bit about nature. You can also take a guided tour throughout the garden Monday – Friday by request, if you’re interested in explore the garden more intimately. Of course, you’re also welcome to wander through on your own, too.

The Carriage House Bistro

If all the walking gets you a little hungry, make sure to stop into the carriage house bistro for some refreshments before heading on your way. The Bistro is a quaint establishment that offers some yummy eats, and also serves a delicious brunch on Saturdays and Sundays. Favorite menu items at Carriage House Bistro include the chicken tortilla soup, the spinach, mushroom, and brie cheese quiche, and the carriage house turkey club. However, with the Bistro serving food for all different meals of the day (breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert), there are plenty of options for everyone. There’s even a kids’ menu!

Hours and Admission

The garden is open from 9 AM- 5 PM daily, and is the perfect place to push a stroller, show off the wonders of the world to a young child, or even head for a walk or hike on your own. Prices for students are $8, children 3 – 13 are $7, and adults are $10.

The San Antonio Botanical Garden provides a beautiful escape from the chaos of the city, and all at a very affordable price.
