In 2009, Jim Sampson decided to take his passion for craft beer to a whole new level with the ultimate goal of making it a career. Later in the year fellow brew lover Shane Bordeau joined forces with Sampson to market flavorful, locally brewed Mexican style craft beers.

TXBC uses everyday ingredients in Mexican cooking such as mole or jalapeños. Their Fuego pilsner is brewed using  jalapeños. It may sound a bit peculiar but the jalapeños provide a spicy but gentle sweet flavor, making it a distinct and tasty all-year rounder.

You might want to give Calypso a shot as well (pun intended). The hops infuses a pleasant aroma, and a bitter taste that’s just about right . This pale ale is awesome during the summer, hanging out with the gang, or enjoying a good pool party. If you like hops, try the Tribute Double IPA and the Chupahopra.

If your head is already swimming with all the beer choices TXBC has on tap, go ahead and ask the friendly bartenders. They would be more than happy  to offer tailor fit suggestions that you will surely love.

Insider Tip

TXBC is a dog-friendly establishment, so no worries about taking your canine companion along. And while you’re there, check out the wooden plank ceiling of the taproom. It’s adorned with visitor’s names, a really nice way to pass the time with a beer or two in hand.

Events

The folks at TXBC like to hold an annual 5K run with no obstacles, no colored powder, no neon lights – just traditional, old school running  for craft beer lovers and food truck fanatics who prefer to keep fit enough so they chug down more beer and good burgers (don’t forget sturdy legs for standing on beer lines too!).

The Brews

Twisted X Premium Lager
ABV: 5.1%
The flagship brew of TXBC, Twisted X Premium Lager pours a discreet hoppy taste with a refreshing finish that can stave off that Hill Country heat. You’ll find a Mexican lager flavor hint produced by yellow corn harvested in Central Texas. It is a craft-quality beer, that leaves a refreshingly bright flavor and distinct clear finish to the last drop.

Bring Twisted X Premium Lager, grab some friends and hang out by the pool or on the lake. An awesome thirst-quencher that goes down crisp and refreshingly easy. Mixes well with bloody Mary to make a great michelada.

Cow Creek
ABV: 5.4%
Inspired by the highly distinguished Negra Modelo (a Mexican lager) Cow Creek is a Tex-Mex dark lager with rich and deep colors that gives off a smooth flavor and a complex character than th e usual lagers and light beers. Cow Creek is made for easy drinking and its rich flavorful dark lager that can satiate and refresh with character and body.

Enjoy Cow Creek alongside grilled meats or steak because this Vienna style lager has a depth of flavor that actually enhances meats so well that it makes for a good marinade.

Fuego
Jalapeno Pilsner
ABV: 6.5%
This Jalapeno Pilsner is TXBC’s classic pils that kicks like a crazy burro. The clean, smooth heat and jalapeno aroma provides a sliver of excitement to its traditionally crisp style. Fuego packs a bit of a punch and leaves a lingering tinge of chili heat, and retains a relaxing effect and crispy taste just like a pilsner would. A good number of chili-infused  craft beer can be quite heavy on the burn than one would like,  but Fuego is all about the pilsner vibe and would rather have you chill with a little fire..

Fuego pairs up just perfectly with any traditional Mexican dish or barbeque. It carries just the right amount of heat and crisp, dry finish that can slice its way through the intensity and heaviness of foods with hijacking the flavors. Pro tip: add this on any chili dish for an extra kick.

Chupahopra
IPA
ABV: 7.5%
TXBC’s full flavor IPA with a strong hoppy finish brought about by Amarillo hops added at the end of the fermentation process. It’s the only pale ale  you can find on TXBC’s production line up. The name Chupahopra, as you may already aware, is coined after the popular Mexican folklore creature, the Chupacabra. The nsme is a combination of the Spanish word chupa, or to suck, and cabra, or goat. The legendary Chupacabra is said to look like an impish, devil-like man or a hyena like cryptid. Its appearance sometimes vary as reports comes from all over the US.

Take the Chupahopra to a live music event and get your hands on some grilled fajitas and fish tacos, or anything with lime and cilantro. Tastes absolutely great with grilled dishes as the bitter taste is balanced out by meat and fruits.

Señor Viejo
ABV: 8.2%
This is a Schwarzbier given the “imperial” treatment by the TXBC crew. That’s a fancy way of saying the brewers upped the alcohol content. After increasing its alcohol content, the beer is aged using 10-gallon barrels.

Señor Viejo pours a very dark brown crowned off by a creamy tan head. Hints roasted malts and a tinge of cocoa aromas dotted with some spicy and bits of oat notes. Señor Viejo’s unique taste, brought about by the tequila aging that created a myriad of flavors such as toasted malt, hints of spice – which all work together to mask Señor Viejo’s considerably higher.
